This caused a bit of a ruckus, but Robert Gray, the founder of Scholly, decided to accept the offer.

Scholly is a scholarship application that matches students with scholarships based on their grades, state and gender. Its app is free to download and can be used on both Apple and Android devices. It was first launched in May 2013 and has helped several hundred thousand students win about $15 million in scholarship funds.
The company was founded by Drexel University students Chris Gray, Nick Pirollo and Bryson Alef. The three teamed up to develop an app that makes the scholarship hunt easier for high school and college students looking for funding to pay for their education.
In addition to helping people find scholarships, the app also allows them to track their progress and receive helpful tips on how to succeed in college. Its AI-supported algorithm will comb through a list of scholarships and match students with the ones that are most relevant to their needs and interests.
Gray says he was inspired to create Scholly after learning that millions of dollars in scholarships go unclaimed every year, because students are unaware they exist. To solve this problem, he and his cofounders created an app that lets users ask questions about themselves and then find scholarships they can apply for.
He said he wanted to make the process simple for everyone. That’s why he decided to keep the app price low so it could be freely available to anyone.
While Scholly doesn’t earn any money through advertising, the company does use a subscription fee structure to cover its costs. Its members can access an unlimited amount of scholarship information. It also provides free tutoring services and e-textbooks to its users.
The company earned a combined deal from Daymond John and Lori Greiner on Shark Tank in 2015. Its sales skyrocketed after the episode, and it’s currently valued at more than $5 million.
Cristopher says he is always in negotiations with corporate and academic partners that want to distribute the app in bulk. He recently forged an arrangement with Saxbys Coffee and Philadelphia’s Science Leadership Academy to offer free memberships to all of their students.
